NEPA SHRM Awarded the Platinum Excel Award!
Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of SHRM Awarded
For Elevating Human Resources, Improving Workplaces
Wilkes-Barre, PA, June 6, 2019 — SHRM (the Society for Human Resource Management) recently awarded the Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of SHRM (“NEPA SHRM”) its prestigious EXCEL Platinum Award for the chapter’s accomplishments in 2018.
The EXCEL award aligns individual chapters’ and state councils’ activities with SHRM’s aspirations for the HR profession. The award recognizes major accomplishments, strategic activities, and tactical initiatives that elevate the profession of human resources.
“So much of SHRM’s success in shaping better workplaces—where employers and employees can thrive together— is owed to the hard work of our chapters and state councils such as NEPA SHRM. Through their courage and leadership, NEPA SHRM is driving true, measurable progress toward the healthy, productive, and dynamic workplaces of tomorrow,” said Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, president and chief executive officer of SHRM. “Awarding this Platinum Excel Award is just one small way for SHRM to recognize and celebrate the big steps this chapter has taken this past year.”
The EXCEL Award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum. Each level has a prescribed set of requirements and accomplishments that must be met. NEPA SHRM will receive recognition in SHRM publications and at conferences, a logo to display on its website, and information to share with its members about the significance of this award.
NEPA SHRM has been an affiliate chapter of SHRM since 1995, growing to exceed 300 professional HR members locally. The chapter continues to strive to be Northeastern Pennsylvania’s leader in resources for Human Resource professionals. In 2018 the chapter continued to provide its members with the opportunity to achieve SHRM Professional Development Credits at an affordable cost with tremendous speakers, leading to the highest attendance since inception of the chapter and nearly half of its members achieving their SHRM certification. It continues to be a source of knowledge for legal employment updates through its strong and valued partnership with the law firm of McNees, Wallace & Nurick. Additionally, it continues to provide scholarship monies to professionals seeking their SHRM certification, networking opportunities for both professionals and students, and connections between local businesses and HR professionals where services can be provided at a discounted cost. “It is an honor and my pleasure to serve NEPA SHRM as we continue to grow and provide HR resources to our local community. Without our members and the businesses of Northeastern Pennsylvania we would not be able to do what we do. The Excel Award is a testament to the hard work of our board of directors and the members of NEPA SHRM,” said Heather Clark, MS, SHRM-SCP, SPHR, president of NEPA SHRM.
